Are we innately good or evil?

Are humans innately good or evil? This is a question that cannot be answered. Some people may think that we are born good and others may think that we are born evil. Last week our class had a debate arguing if we are innately good or evil. After listening to both sides of the argument I came to the conclusion that humans are innately good. Innate means existing in, belonging to, or determined by factors present in an individual from birth. At birth, people are born good and circumstances in their life turn them evil.

An example that can prove my opinion would be all the characters from Lord of The Flies. In the beginning of the book, all the kids were normal and they respected each other. But as the book goes on they start to become savages and bloodthirsty. This is showing how they are all innately good because they started off good and changed to being evil because of harsh circumstances. Another example would be life right now. In the modern world, there are more good people than bad. If people were innately bad then there would be more bad people in the world than good. This is proving my point which is humans are innately good.

Also, some people may think that we are born with a blank slate and grow up to be good or evil. This just wouldn’t make sense because there are more good people than bad people. And if everyone was born with a blank slate then why are there more good people than bad people in the world? Based on this logic I can make the conclusion that humans are innately good.
